Disaster relief following Hurricane Helene
Our thoughts and prayers are with those in western North Carolina impacted by the path of Hurricane Helene. There are more than 20 hospitals affected and thousands of people left devastated by the storm.
The US National Guard and state resources have been deployed as well as members of ECU Health and the Eastern Healthcare Preparedness Coalition. Within 24 hours of the storm, ECU Health “pre-deployed” to the area carrying supplies, an ambulance bus and experts to help. The ECU Health team was among the first to arrive in the region in the early hours after the storm moved through.
Members of ECU Health and the Eastern Healthcare Preparedness Coalition are in communication with NC Emergency Management and state officials. Right now, state officials are asking us not to "self-deploy" to the area.
While there are many of us who have a strong desire to go and help, it is important that we follow the direction of officials on site.
