Since opening the East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU Health Medical Center in 2009, we have continued to focus on bringing the latest and most effective therapies to the patients of eastern North Carolina. Keeping care local by offering access to experts who pioneer heart and vascular surgical care solidifies our commitment to providing world-class heart care close to home.
Innovative Treatments and Technology
Our robotic cardiac surgery program now includes minimally invasive “beating heart” bypass, eliminating the heart-lung machine and improving recovery. Our TAVR results rank in the top 5% nationwide, and our coronary bypass received a three-star rating, placing us in the top 8%. This year, we treated a record number of LVAD patients, achieving higher-than-expected survival rates.
Groundbreaking Care Initiatives
Building on our legacy of innovation, we launched a groundbreaking cardiac regeneration program, placing us among the nation’s elite. We’re one of only seven sites in an FDA study of a regenerative extracellular matrix tricuspid valve, which uses biological material to attract the body’s stem cells and rebuild native tissue—potentially allowing patients to re-grow valves or regenerate heart muscle.
