Each moment matters

In every hospice environment, our team provides expert, compassionate care for people with a life expectancy of six months or less. We’re here to manage pain and discomfort, help alleviate fear and loneliness, ease anxiety about what lies ahead and address concerns. Available 24-7, we offer a wide range of hospice services that include skilled nursing, respite care, pastoral support, home health aides and telehomecare.

Foundation funds help support bereavement programs, books for children who’ve lost a close relative, iPads to help loved ones stay in touch with family members, transportation assistance and much more.

All gifts to ECU Health Home Health & Hospice go directly to hospice patient care and programs. Because of the meaningful experiences so many patients and families have had through our services, many people choose to make a memorial donation in honor of their loved ones. Help us make sure that everyone in eastern North Carolina will be able to benefit from ECU Health hospice services if needed.

Comprehensive inpatient and outpatient programs

With the most advanced therapies, techniques and technologies, we offer rehabilitation care for adults and children who have experienced orthopedic injuries, neurological and musculoskeletal disorders, stroke, trauma, amputations, arthritis, spinal cord dysfunction or brain injury. From physical therapy to support groups, nowhere else uses interdisciplinary teamwork the way we do to help patients and families adapt to the challenges of everyday life.

It doesn’t matter whether disability happens through disease or injury, or whether the onset is slow or sudden. Our goal is always the same—restore quality of life by helping patients regain lost function.

Transitioning to independence at New Horizons Square

How can patients safely practice the tasks they’ll encounter at home or in the community? At New Horizons Square, one of our rehabilitation tools. Here, patients can navigate a simulated environment that includes a bank, a grocery store, a gas station, an apartment and more—all connected by sidewalks, streets and paths of various textures.

Heading out into the community.

Re-entering the community is often the final but most challenging aspect of rehab. Through community-based activities such as shopping, dining, or even heading to a football stadium, we help patients address social and emotional issues and build confidence.

In this realistic setting, patients and families can practice the skills they’ve learned to help ensure a more comfortable transition from rehab center to home.

An ongoing relationship based on trust

It’s an unfortunate fact: Many women delay seeking the care they need, whether it’s putting off routine checkups because they’re too busy caring for others, or it’s something more serious — such as avoiding prenatal care or not knowing where to turn for help with post-partum depression. New research suggests that many women even ignore the symptoms of heart disease and don’t seek immediate treatment during a heart attack. Here at ECU Health, we aim to change all that. How? By helping women develop a trusting, lifelong relationship with our team.

Through a variety of programs and services, we’re raising awareness about the importance of early detection for a range of women’s health issues—and ideally, getting more women to recognize the importance of preventative care, too.

Full-service, family-centered maternity care

We’re equipped to handle every kind of pregnancy, and ECU Health Medical Center is the regional referral center for high-risk pregnancies and premature births. In addition, the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital at ECU Health Medical Center has the only Level III neonatal intensive care unit in eastern North Carolina. ECU Health pregnancy and childbirth services include:

Our commitment to women’s care also encompasses outpatient specialty services, the latest advances in gynecologic surgery, digital mammography, teen health and counseling, as well as ongoing wellness and community education programs.
